Abstract:Objective To investigate the application value of ultrasound therapy combined with meibomian gland massage in the treatment of dry eye. Methods From June 2023 to December 2025, 100 patients with dry eye admitted to the Department of Ophthalmology of Henan Provincial Staff Hospital were randomly divided into combination treatment group (n=52) and control group (n=48) according to the random number table method. The control group was treated with meibomian gland massage device, and the combined treatment group was treated with ultrasound therapy device on the basis of the control group. The course of treatment in both groups was 4 weeks. Tear film breakup time (BUT), SchirmerⅠtest (SⅠt), ocular surface disease index (OSDI) score, meibomian gland secretion score (MGSS) and clinical efficacy were compared between the two groups before treatment, 2 weeks after treatment and 4 weeks after treatment. Results At 4 weeks after treatment, the BUT of the combined treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group (P<0.001). The SIt of the combined treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group (P<0.001). The OSDI score of the combination treatment group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.001). The MGSS of the combination treatment group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.001). The total effective rate in the combination treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group (χ2 =4.191, P=0.041). Conclusion Ultrasound therapy combined with meibomian gland massage has a significant synergistic effect in the treatment of dry eye, which can effectively improve the stability of tear film, increase tear secretion and relieve ocular surface inflammation. At the same time, its clinical efficacy is better than that of single meibomian gland massage therapy.
