Abstract:The theory of embodied cognition considers that the human cognitive process is constructed through the interaction between the body and the environment, emphasizing that the body and the environment have an important influence on the cognitive process. Embodied cognition has now been widely applied to the fields of virtual reality, human-computer interaction, and intelligent robotics. This review summarizes that the activation of the mirror neuron system, the compatibility effects of stimulus-response, and the production of illusions may underlie neural mechanisms of embodied cognition. In addition, the application of embodied technology, which is based on embodied cognition, in the fields of virtual reality, augmented reality, and brain-computer interface is summarized. Several brain electrical signals that are related to embodied cognition and have been applied in human-computer interaction are presented. The future research direction and trend in embodied cognition and embodied technology are finally provided.
